JIMMY TREEHORN DESIGNED ALARM22 ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ: THE GAME ™.

HE BUILT THE LARGE SCALE MODEL OF ALCATRAZ WHICH CAN BE VIEWED AT PIER 31 AT ALCATRAZ LANDING IN SAN FRANCSICO ON THE EMBARCADERO AT ALCATRAZ CRUISES.

THE MOST INTERESTING DESIGN ELEMENT IS THE GAME BOARD. JIMMY SPENT MANY MONTHS HAND DRAWING THE IMAGE OF THE ISLAND OF ALCATRAZ TO CAPTURE THE DETAILS OF THE LANDSCAPE AND BUILDINGS FROM HIS TIME STUDYING THE ISLAND TO BUILD THE MODEL. BECAUSE HE HAD UNIQUE ACCESS TO THE ISLAND, OFTEN IN PLACES UNAVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC, HIS DRAWING OF ALCATRAZ AND ITS CONTOURS HAS CREATED A REALISTIC PORTRAYAL OF THE ISLAND’S LANDSCAPE.

JIMMY TREEHORN SPENT MONTHS STUDYING BOARD GAMES TO DESIGN THE GAME PLAY TO BE BOTH FUN AND CHALLENGING. HE CAPTURES THE EMOTIONS OF THE PRISONERS IN EACH PHASE OF THE GAME: PROCESSING, DOING TIME AND THE ESCAPE! He ANALYZED MANY CLASSIC BOARD GAMES ESPECIALLY THOSE OF THE 1960S AND 1970S TO PORTRAY HIS BOARDGAME IN A CLASSIC STYLE.

HE IS ALL ABOUT IMAGINATION AND ADVENTURE. HIS WORK AS AN ARTIST INCLUDES LARGE SCALE SIGN PAINTING, BILLBOARD PAINTING AND MODEL BUILDING. HIS LOVE OF RACING MOTORCYCLES AND CARS HAS COME FORTH IN THE DESIGN OF THE GAME’S SLEEK AND ELEGANT STYLE.

Henry Ledyard

Henry Ledyard did the graphic design on the game. He was brought into the project early by Jimbo because Jimbo hates computers. He has been instrumental in the publication of the game.

Henry did the layout for the game board and cards. He set up the designs and made them print ready. He has worked closely with the printers, Win Go, to make a good looking game true to Jimbo's designs.

Jimbo has guided the process throughout. He has a wide knowledge of type, text and layout and has made numerous corrections throughout. Having Jimbo standing over his shoulder on the game board design was painful at times, but created a timeless design. This close working relationship has created the artwork you see though out Escape From Alcatraz.

Henry doesn't consider himself a graphic designer. He was an engineer with a proficiency in computers and artistic tendencies.

BRIDGET – ILLUSTRATOR

Bridget is the youngest member of the team. She is a California native from the bay area and beat out other designers for the job of illustrating the game. The amazing thing is that she did so between going to high school and leaving for college. Although younger than many of her peers, her style of illustration has a cartoon realism that provides a fun element to the game.

Her artwork unites the game play elements of the cards with the game board. She provided the artwork used in the Planning and Escape cards and whimsical game board elements, like the shark. She also provided all of the color work for the game board to create a realistic game board that has elements of an aerial image of Alcatraz Island. Each of these elements was done by hand, including the game board which was done in colored pencil for the final design.
